(Il)legally Download This
Never judge a band by their first single. Or at least this one. I really dislike the song "Like a G6" by Far East Movement, and I think it's mainly because of the girl in the chorus who says 'like a G6' really annoyingly. To my surprise, she's just a featured artist in the song, and the Far East Movement is comprised of 4 Asian American guys from LA's Koreatown.
I heard this song on the radio and SHAZAMed it immediately, and lo and behold it was Far East Movement! Only this time, featuring one of my favorites, Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic. The song is called "Rocketeer" and I can't get enough!

Ninjas Are Real

Sydney, Australia - A group of assailants got a little more than they bargained for when an entire ninja school came to their victim's rescue. A 27-year-old German exchange student was being mugged in an alley near Ninja Senshi Ryu, when a ninja student noticed the commotion. The sensei along with the rest of the students rushed out to help. "You should have seen their faces when they saw us in ninja gear coming towards them," the school's sensei, Kaylan Soto, told the Herald. It's good to see ninjas working on their brand. When I was a kid they were mostly shurikens, smoke, and attitude.

Hello, MURDER
Now is this really necessary? What's the target demographic here? 13 year old girls who are interested in forestry? Or really creepy old murderers who enjoy Japanese based cartoon trends??

So You Want A Snuggie?
Now that you have the snuggie you always wanted as a Christmas present, maybe you should consider putting this on your list for next year. (And yes, this is a REAL thing. Thanks, Japan, as always.)

Going Rogue aka Racist
While at home in Rochester over Christmas, I happened to be looking for something in my parents' room and I saw, next to my mom's side of the bed, the following book:

For the rest of the day, I could not get over the fact my mother was reading this book. I mean, to be honest, my parents have the Fox News Channel on all the time, and I think last year, my mom wanted Glenn Beck's book for Christmas, but I like to ignore the fact they're probably Republicans so I'll actually like them.
"sarah's book"??? REALLY? you guys on a first name basis now? do you do aerial moose hunting together on the weekends? that's great. juuust great.
In telling this great little anecdote, I found this article whose headline was "asians scared sarah palin away from hawaii" First of all, HAHAHAHA. Second of all, this is an excerpt from the article in the New Yorker which explains said headline:
I'm actually not that surprised by this, and it certainly doesn't change that fact that I think she's an embarrassment to this country. But I mean, welcome to America, Sarah Palin. Does Alaska not have any minorities at all? Don't Eskimos still live up there? Hey McCain/Palin loyalists: you wanted THIS GIRL to be the vice president of this country.
I'm pretty sure my mom hasn't read this article. But I have a feeling she probably won't believe it because she'll ask 'Sarah' about it on their next book club meeting and she will deny all of it and make up words to completely deviate from the fact that she hates my people.

My AW HELL NO reaction:

I nonchalantly asked my mom
"so what are you reading?"
republican mother: "what?"
liberal daughter: "the book that's by your bed?"
rm: "oh sarah's book?" ld: "...yes. sarah's book."
rm: "why? is that ok?"
ld: [thinking ABSOLUTELY IT'S NOT OK] "umm i was just wondering what you were reading. ...interesting."

In telling this great little anecdote, I found this article whose headline was "asians scared sarah palin away from hawaii" First of all, HAHAHAHA. Second of all, this is an excerpt from the article in the New Yorker which explains said headline:
Palin, though notoriously ill-traveled outside the United States, did journey far to the first of the four colleges she attended, in Hawaii. She and a friend who went with her lasted only one semester. "Hawaii was a little too perfect," Palin writes. "Perpetual sunshine isn't necessarily conducive to serious academics for eighteen-year-old Alaska girls." Perhaps not. But Palin's father, Chuck Heath, gave a different account to Conroy and Walshe. According to him, the presence of so many Asians and Pacific Islanders made her uncomfortable: "They were a minority type thing and it wasn't glamorous, so she came home." In any case, Palin reports that she much preferred her last stop, the University of Idaho, "because it was much like Alaska yet still 'Outside.'"

I'd like to bring it back to the heart of this blog, the AZN. You all may know well that I embrace my Asianess, and comment about it on a daily basis. So whenever the opportunity to poke fun of my fellow people arises, I usually am the first one to bring it up. This is no different. Here's a pic I found on Google Reader today. Enjoy.
