In saying this, Volkswagen's latest ad campaign proves that just by making something more 'fun', more people will use it. I would totally use the stairs if this was in the states!! Ok, maybe not Porter Square still...there aren't enough keys for that shit.

Self-serve wine tanks could be hitting American supermarkets within a year. These 500 and 1,000 liter mechanical kegs dispense wine into whatever container the shopper brings with them.

By getting rid of the packaging, the wine can be shipped much cheaper. The savings get passed on to you with lower prices, and supposedly the wine tastes pretty good too.

Um, this is kind of amazing. And I work with wedding invitations.

Two betrothed German geeks/gamers just upped the ante when it comes to wedding invitations.

The pair, programed two versions of a Mario-inspired 8-bit video game as their wedding invitations and sent them out to friends and family. Guests are also challenged to beat the game should they wish to unlock the wedding details.

Their video game wedding invitations — dubbed Incredible Adventure — also included some remarkable custom packaging (as seen below) and two different versions of the game so would-be guests could play as either the bride or the groom.

Someone needs to turn this videogame-inspired condom packaging design concept into reality, because I really want to see the look on my significant other's face when I inform him that we're out of Donkey Shlong.

Designer Ben Marsh justifies the whimsical—albeit somewhat impractical—packaging concept as a way to promote safer sex:

The packaging aims [to] create a desire to purchase the product for aesthetic reasons, rather than the necessity of condoms. Simply by owning the product, safe sex is promoted.

I just think of it as a way to promote giggling in the bedroom.

I mean, what. This guy decided because it was so hot out, that he would make a refreshing fruit drink. Here's the recipe, folks!

Watermelon always tastes so good in the heat, and it you spike it with some lime flavored vodka its even better.
You make a hole in the watermelon all the way into the meat.
Place a funnel in the hole and pour in the vodka.
It takes a long time for the watermelon to soak it up.
2 cups takes about 2 days, so do it in the fridge.
The result is awesome. Cut the melon into wedges and serve.

Lady Antebellum Stakeout: 2010

A few weeks ago, I was sitting on our balcony, perusing ONTD and listening to some tunes. Through my headphones, I could hear really loud music playing. I thought to myself, 'WHO IS PLAYING THEIR MUSIC SO DARN LOUD??' (Apparently Los Angeles has made me into one of those 80 year old blue-haired women at the Lyric who need hearing devices for the front row, or Mr. Heckles from 'Friends') I took my headphones off and heard someone yell 'PLAYBACK!', after which what seemed to be the makings of a country song start playing. Thanks to my excellent detective skills - and ability to google lyrics at a moment's notice - i discovered that the song playing was entitled 'Our Kind of Love' by Lady Antebellum!

Naturally, I then proceeded to freak the eff out, as Lady Antebellum was shooting a music video near my apartment!! I figured out that they were filming across the street, in what we here like to refer to as 'the place where toys go to die.'

When we first moved here, we always wondered what that lot with abandoned toys' purpose was, if there were any episodes of 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' filmed there, and why it was only filled with Little Tikes cars and those mini carousels you find in the middle of the mall (child pictured is NOT me). Apparently, the only time anyone ever goes in there now is to film Lady Antebellum videos.

Being the creeper that I am, I took this picture:


If you look closely, you can see the bright lights on set. But because I wasn't satisfied with this, I went over there to get a closer look. I tried taking a video through the fence, but even that's too creepy to put on the internetz.

Ryan finally got home, and I informed him of the exciting action that was taking place across the street, so we again went over there to investigate. Maybe they needed some extras, right? Well, we walked all around the perimeter of the lot, found the entrance, and even found all the trailers and kraft service truck too! We managed to see Charles and Hilary filming through the fence, which was pretty cool, but thought some of the crew could see us, so we didn't take any pix :( So we walked back to our apartment, a little defeated, yet still interested in what was going on, so we stood on our balcony for a while and watched from there. I took the following video (no need to watch the entire thing, unless you have absolutely have nothing better to do, like me) :




Basically, I spent about 3 hours of my Sunday afternoon stalking Lady Antebellum. I thought it was a good 3 hours well spent. So what does the finished product look like? Well here it is, the video for "Our Kind of Love". Just imagine me across from this toy lot standing on our balcony chairs trying to get a better look. It's just more fun that way.

If there is one thing I think people don't do enough of, it's write letters. And I'm not just saying that because I work at a stationery store. I just love sending and receiving mail. It's the best feeling knowing that someone took enough time to write and send you a letter instead of just writing a few sentences on your Facebook wall.

Anyways, some awesome dude came up with Google map envelopes, where if you look closely, you can even see how far your letter is actually going! How awesome is that!

And You Thought the Treadmill Thing Was Cool

This video has been out for a while, but just in case you haven't seen it, here's the music video for OkGo's "This Too Shall Pass." It took engineers 6 months to just design the set, which included thousands of moving parts that all needed to go off without a hitch, shot in single camera. The entire thing only made it all the way through 3 times, and the final cut is a combination two of those perfect shots. Enjoy!!
