What I Know For Sure

In 7th grade, we had an assignment in social studies class to research and write a biography about any famous person, whether living or dead. And I chose Oprah. I spent my nights as a 12 year old reading about how at the hospital, someone wrote her name on the birth certificate wrong, so instead of "Orpah (from the Bible)", they wrote "Oprah". How she grew up in rural Mississippi to parents who had only spent one night together, and her mother didn't even want to keep her in the first place. Needless to say, along with many others, I've grown up with Oprah, watching her after school when my parents weren't home. Watching her in college when I didn't have class. Watching the 20th anniversary dvds the very first time I ever hung out with one of my best friends. Watching her as she said goodbye on her last show.

It doesn't matter what your thoughts are on Oprah, you can't deny she has left a powerful, influential mark on society. She's changed the lives of thousands of people, and there isn't one person I can think of that has done so with television as their medium. So when I was watching her 2nd to last show and Tyler Perry talked about the Oprah Winfrey scholarship at Moorehouse College, I thought that was exactly what she had envisioned for her show, to give a chance - an education - to hundreds of young men who wouldn't otherwise get one. But then, I saw Kirstin Chenoweth come out and heard the first 2 notes of "For Good" from Wicked, and I lost it. It was perfect. This song was made for Oprah. I'll miss your show being on my DVR everyday, but I know this isn't the end. Thank You.

KC Is Back!

I posted this on twitter a while ago, but thought i'd share again with my blog readers. Kelly Clarkson is coming back, folks. If this song is any indication of what her new album is going to be, I cannot wait. Also, please release a live acoustic album. thanks.

May is a Rough Month for TV Fans Like Me

May not only brings us season finales, but it also brings the decisions of networks whether to continue our favorite shows or not. My top shows from this season's upfronts:

Show I'm going to miss:

Brothers & Sisters
I've stuck with the Walker clan since the beginning. From Sarah's divorce with creepy Joe, to chasing Tommy to Mexico (should have just followed Sienna Miller's whereabouts), to Kitty's political relationship to smokeshow Rob Lowe, to Justin's marriage to who they thought was their sibling, to Nora's best boyfriend IMO, Danny Glover, I've been through all of it with them. But, alas it was time. I'll miss you the most, Kevin and Scotty. Who will be my favorite gay couple on tv now? (Kurt and Blaine? Probs. They have a lot to live up to.)

Show I'm SO excited is renewed for another season:

Parenthood
Lauren Graham. Peter Krause. + stellar cast that are too many to name. I can't even begin to explain my love for this show. Yay new Braverman baby!!

The Best Show You're Not Watching Is...

Happy Endings! The good news is that if you haven't seen any of the past 9 episodes, ABC has renewed it for next season! Set around a group of early thirty something friends dealing with breakups, dating, and marriage, this might be one of the best sitcoms centered around young friends since, well, Friends. The cast is stellar, and the writing feels fresh and new. It literally leaves me wanting more. With gems such as my new motto in life:

and this clip which basically sums up my experience at Emerson:

How can you not love this show?

Come on my Back!

What a delight it was to see the Ambiguously Gay Duo back on my tv screen last night. But what was even better was that halfway through it turned into a live action sketch, complete with my loves Jimmy Fallon & Jon Hamm as the Duo, and Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert as the villains. I could not stop laughing.

Bonus day after SNL pic of Ed Helms in NYC. #winning:

Ba Ba Booey

Probs THE best ep of Parks & Rec to date: The Fight. Tom promotes his new "high end kahlua-style liquor", Snake Juice at his bar the Snake Hole, and everyone gets a liiiitle wasted. After all, Tom made the drink by "mixing a bunch of alcohol together, adding some sugar and coffee, and some other junk and it kinda tastes like kahlua." Schwasted Parks & Rec employees are the best.

I Miss the 90s

I'm sure most of you have already seen this, but I thought I'd repost it with some of my faves. Here's the original post: 40 Things That Will Make You Feel Old.

"BANK, YOU FUCKING IDIOT!"

Nicki Minaj Being Cute...

with SMOKESHOW man candy around her. [note to self: don't ever say the phrase 'man candy' again.] This is my absolute fave song off her Pink Friday album, and surprisingly is a bonus track. Enjoy the Superbass!

This is a Katy Perry Post

Listen, I have no shame in saying that I love Katy Perry. Her Teenage Dream album is one of the best pop albums around [see: hummingbird heartbeat]. Here are a few gems from the candyland queen herself.

#BEATTHEHEAT

gratuitous picture of my celts mug (filled with dunkin donuts coffee), green nail polish, and newest celts shirt. let's win this thang.

I'm Still Obsessed

Guys, I seriously am not over the Royal Wedding yet. I just found these pics on boston.com from their excellent 'The Big Picture' section. Put it on your RSS feed. Seriously considering either getting the official BBC Royal Wedding DVD...or going into some kind of rehab facility for this event. TBD. Anyways, here are some great photos from the big day. I picked a few of my faves from the series. (click on pic for larger version!)

I love how all the spectators were genuinely excited for them to get married. Like just plain happy for them [see old lady in bottom center of picture]. Even more astounding to me was how Prince William and Kate just sat in their carriage and drove through the streets without any riots or anyone getting hurt (must be my 'post 9/11' mindset thinking someone would pull a gun out or something)

Kate's last look back and wave to the commoners before she becomes the dutchess of cambridge. so gorgeous.

THEY'RE SO IN LOVE. LIKE REAL LOVE, NOT CHARLES AND DIANA LOVE.

Mr. Middleton making sure even her veil is perfect!! so cute!

Adore that they lined the wabbey with trees!

THAT CARRIAGE IS SO OLD. FROM 1902. IT STILL HAS THOSE LAMPS ON THE SIDE FOR GAS LIGHTS OR CANDLES! slash never would i have thought in 2011 i would see a man wearing that outfit on the left, tending to the future king and queen of england. amazing.

oblig. loves them. and the little girl who's over it. and the other girl who can appreciate their love.

Cinderelly Cinderelly

Let me tell you a little story called "Traci didn't care about the Royal Wedding until she was up at 2am and saw Posh & Becks walking into the @wabbey like smokeshows, so she decided to stay up and watch the wedding then became obsessed with the entire to-do, dvr-ed 5 hours of CNN coverage, continued to watch it for the next 2 days, and even did extensive research online of the history of monarchy in the UK."

true story. discovered this gem, and found it incredibly accurate. still can't stop watching and looking at pics. what is happening to me?

bonus: found on ontd captioned as
"bye commoners xoxo"
