The Last Five Years

Five years ago, I came back from the most important, life changing, and just plain FUN experience of my life.

I challenge you to find anyone who was once a castle dweller to not say the same thing. For those who don't know, I was lucky enough to spend three months living and learning in a medieval castle in the Netherlands, and bonus: I got to travel Europe on the weekends. Suffice it to say, it was the best few months of my life. Here are a few memories from my time in kasteel well...

first day jitters. staying up for 24 hours. team emerson. huberrrr. coochies. missing friends. making friends. belgian wafels. stroopwafels. meermarkt. strippenkart. hagelslag. frites with mayonaise. the horrible coffee vending machine in the VB {that we had anyways}. birthday dvds played on repeat. scouring the internet for the latest gilmore girls episode. walk for weed. ipod jacking. spice girls song of the day. changing the guard - abba style. best sunset ever in nice. carnival. the olympics! death cab for cutie and john vanderslice in barcelona. ordering a cheese plate for dinner. sangria and chocolate on the beach. czechziety. dusseldorf train station. nippon. sound of music tour. disco bathroom. family dinner at happy hostel. captain planet. do you know the dunleavys? st. patrick's day in doolin. st. patrick's day in galway. emerson hofbrauhaus takeover. greece face. pee stick. pee bed. wanting to leave. not wanting to leave. muffins for life.

I can't believe it's been five years since we've returned home from our 'second life' in Europe. I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today, emotionally and physically, if I hadn't gone to the castle. Dank u wel to everyone that was a part of my kasteel life then, and my american kasteel life now. My life is forever changed because of it.

Keyword: Shameless

Let me tell you a little story called "in 2007, we made this video in an attempt to win a prize, but didn't win anything except eternal humiliation on youtube found in 2010."

In short, my friends and I made a short film called "Shameless Ambitions" a few years ago for this competition called Campus Movie Fest. Basically, you have like a week to put together this 5 minute movie. Then your school, in our case, Emerson, has a night where they show the top finalists, who then go on to the Boston finals, and the winner of that goes to Nationals. We OBVIOUSLY knew we weren't going to win, especially with the high quality and artsiness that is Emerson. In saying that, this film of ours was shot in about a 2 day span, in our Allston apartment and my old place of employment, the Lyric. The plot was simple: a behind the scenes look of an amateur karaoke competition. Now, I'm still trying to figure out if this is actually funny, or if it's only funny because it's us and our humor. You decide.

And you can decide, because IT'S ON THE INTERWEBZ. I happened to be googling myself the other night (don't lie and say you've never done it), and this new link came up that had never come up before in previous searches of myself. I clicked on it and lo and behold, there it was, our infamous campus film festival video made 3 years ago. and they decided to put it up now?? oh, and it's on YOU TUBE, WITH 45 VIEWS!!! HAHAHA AND SOMEONE ALREADY COMMENTED ON IT. I love it.

So please enjoy 'That's What She Said Productions' presentation of Shameless Ambitions

An Emerson College Timeline

It's as if Paste magazine chronicled and did a ten year study of the students at Emerson for ten years. Amazing.

2000"The Emo": "The proto-hipster’s white belt and guyliner make for a soulful combination."

2002 "The Ashton": His PBR trucker hat and faux vintage t-shirt reveal an obsession with “irony.”

2003 "The Scenester" : "A gaudy tattoo appears on her chest, and she is never spotted without her iPod."

2007 "The Vintage Queen" : "She shops at retro boutiques and posts Holga photos on her blog. She has said that the koi fish cover-up tattoo on her arm symbolizes “nature and love and peace and stuff.” [ed. note: call me crazy (or call me an emersonian) but i like this look. sans the koi tatt]

2008 "The Williamsburg" : "He thoughtfully hangs shutter shades in the deep-V of his white tee, and he’s often seen walking his fixed-gear bike around town while texting with his iPhone." [I'd say I saw a lot of this look, just shave down the stache a bit and add some faux ray bans, and they'd be good to go down Boylston st]
